Heart of the City started in order to fill the need they saw for fresh baked, locally made, gluten free and peanut free sweets, treats and family favorites.  Since April of 2015, they have been making cookies, cakes, pies, muffins and other delicious treats because they believe that everyone should have a safe and delicious baked good for a special day or any day.

Sweetgrass Soaps began in 2012 with a small batch of lard soap made in our home kitchen. A hard look at our own bath and body products led us to a journey in natural, healthful, and eco friendly soaps and other natural, bath, beauty, and relaxation items. Orange is the Hot Color This Weekend!

By fallspark, October 20th, 2017 | No Comments »

Seems like orange is the go to color this time of year and we have plenty of options available to help you stay on trend. From our eye-catching carrots to perfectly ghoulish pumpkins, the Farmers Market can help you fashion an orange extravaganza perfect for celebrating fall.

Speaking of carrots, have you tried roasting them in brown butter and sage? Turn this side dish into the star of the show. It’s super easy and they’ll have everyone wanting more.

Now’s the time to start stocking up for the cold days ahead. We’ll have plenty of squash, beets, onions and potatoes plus lots of other delicious produce. As always, there will be fresh flowers, coffee, tea, pizza, pasta, breads, meats and so much more!

Embrace the fall and join us Saturday morning from 8 am to 1 pm in beautiful Falls Park.

Horse Drawn Wagon Rides

While you’re checking out the Falls Park Farmers Market this Saturday, save some time for a horse-drawn wagon ride from McCrossan Boys Ranch. It’s a great way to enjoy a ride through the park. We know how you love the park. Rides will be available from 9 am to noon for a free-will donation.

Start Rooting for Carrots

Want to up your carrot game from ranch dip to a warm and satisfying dish? Start with this super-easy recipe:
Toss cleaned carrots with olive oil, salt & pepper
Roast at 450 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until soft
Saute roasted carrots in butter with chopped,
fresh sage leaves until butter browns

Savory or sweet, gourds make for tasty treats and hearty additions to your fall stews and soups! They also make great decorations in the fall!

Technically, the green bean is a fruit. The Supreme Court ruled in 1883 that it is a “fruit of the vine”. Fruit or veggie, they’re delicious!

Are you making fresh salsa and want to peel your tomatoes fast? Boil them for 20-30 seconds then drop them into ice water. You’ll be able to pull the peels right off!

You might think the chill in the air has signaled the end of fresh local tomatoes, but not so fast! We still haven’t seen a frost in the area so there are still lots of fresh tomatoes to be enjoyed. And now is the time to can or freeze these beauties so you can enjoy them through the winter and spring. Whether you can them, make salsa or marinara, come stock up this weekend!

With this many fresh tomatoes, we suggest you try the classic Caprese salad. First, it’s pronounced kah-prey-zey, so when you tell your friends, they’ll think you spent a week in Italy. Caprese is a simple and elegant salad, just arrange sliced tomatoes and slices of fresh mozzarella cheese on a plate, sprinkle with fresh chopped or torn basil leaves and drizzle with a little olive oil and Balsamic vinegar. The red, white and green colors not only celebrate the freshness of the season, but they match the Italian flag!

This Saturday the market will also be overflowing with squash, potatoes, the last of the sweet corn, beets, onions and garlic. Lots of carrots, turnips, kohlrabi, and summer squash too. As always we’ll have fresh coffee, tea, pizza, pasta, breads, meats and so much more!

See you on Saturday!

Don’t worry about corn being too sugary. An ear of corn has one-fourth the amount of sugar that an apple has. So go ahead and nibble on these yummy kernels.

Staying away from Brussels sprouts because of their smell? These little cabbages only smell bad when overcooked. When cooked correctly, they’re scrumptious!

Did you know your heart loves tomatoes? Some nutritionists have even suggested updating the old adage to “A tomato a day keeps the heart doctor away.”
